I wish to express my gratitude...
I wish to express my gratitude for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which she has given us. Without this book I might not have been healed of heart trouble. This difficulty was so serious that I could not walk across the room.
One day some people moved next door. They asked me to try Christian Science and lent me a copy of Science and Health. By reading it, I was entirely healed. That was more than forty years ago, and I have been well ever since.
In 1919, I received class instruction. Soon after that we moved to the country, where I had more time to study the truth. In our family we have had healings of scarlet fever, appendicitis, stomach ulcers, and broken bones. My husband was healed of asthma after three weeks of treatment, and he remained well thereafter. When he passed on at the age of eighty-three, God was with me to keep me from grief.
For about two months I suffered from a nervous breakdown. One day I was inspired to attend a Christian Science lecture which was held in a nearby city. This took much effort, as a long bus ride was involved, and I had to walk three blocks; but with God's help I arrived.
The lecturer quoted the Bible words (II Cor. 6:16), "Ye are the temple of the living God," and he said them with such conviction that I accepted this truth and was immediately healed.
At another time a forest fire raged directly toward the small clearing in the woods where our house stood. Recognizing the ever-presence of God and His protection, I declared aloud that our real dwelling is in that presence, and I accepted the Bible promise (Ps. 91:10), "There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." I was positive that these statements were true. The fire came just to the edge of the clearing; then it turned and raced down a narrow valley, burning itself out.
I could tell of many healings I have had through making use of the truths learned in Christian Science. I am so grateful to be a member of The Mother Church and also of a branch church, where I am able to serve. For all the loving members in it, I am indeed grateful.—(Mrs.) Ella Manners, Seattle, Washington.
