AFFIRMATION AND DENIAL

In Christian Science we learn that God is All; therefore evil is nothing. These truths are profound and far-reaching. But are we not being faced in our daily lives with the need for really understanding these truths in their real significance? Are we truly conscious of the spiritual allness, ever-presence, and power of God, divine Mind? And are we equally conscious of the nothingness of evil, in all its seeming manifestations, produced by the carnal mind?

If these facts are not more than mere words to us, they will not take us far. So let us examine them in the light of Christian Science, for Christian Science demands spiritual understanding, knowing the truth, not merely believing it.

Throughout the Bible it is emphasized in many differing ways that God is All and that there is none else. In this statement, we have the basis of affirmation and denial. When we affirm the allness of divine Mind, are we really knowing it or only believing it? If we are truly knowing this fact, then we are finding our at-one-ment with divine Mind and therefore are able to reflect divine power. If, on the other hand, we are only believing the truth, we have not yet grasped the real meaning of affirmation, and we lack the ability to express spiritual power.
