UNITING ALL INTERESTS

"The cement of a higher humanity will unite all interests in the one divinity." This short sentence from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 571) points the way to complete release from the pressure of divided interests and from the fear of being left out or neglected.

In the Bible, we read about the multitudes which thronged Jesus; but he was never swayed by mass human thinking or put under any false pressure of obligation by the demands of the crowd, although he always showed the greatest compassion for the multitude, as well as for each individual who came to him for help. For example, when he was asked by Jairus to go to help his little daughter, who was dying, Jesus responded immediately. However, when a woman in the crowd came forward to touch his garment in the hope of healing, he did not keep on his way, feeling that he was too busy to stop because he was occupied with something of greater importance.

Jesus waited to speak to the woman who he knew had received healing. He had not sought her out, but he used the opportunity which so naturally presented itself to give the people another proof of divine healing. At that moment this must have encouraged them all to accept the possibility that Jairus' daughter too could be healed. And so it proved.
