PURPOSEFUL EMPLOYMENT

Employment is a subject which occupies the thought of the majority of mankind continually. Most people find it necessary to work to support themselves and to contribute to the care of members of the family. Christian Science offers a constructive basis on which to build a successful career of profitable and purposeful employment.

The Apostle Paul writes (II Cor. 9:8), "God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work." From this statement we learn that God is the source of all good and supplies unlimited opportunities for useful activity in daily living.

Each one of us has a definite purpose to fulfill in God's plan, and that purpose is to glorify Him: to reflect His character and power continually. Christ Jesus glorified God throughout his entire career, which was one of progressive activity. When the Jews accused him of breaking the law by healing a sick man on the Sabbath day, he said (John 5:17), "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." The Master never stopped working during his waking hours, and included in that work were frequent periods of prayer.
