DOMINION THROUGH OBEDIENCE

As we consider the lives of friends and associates whose achievements we admire or as we read of the accomplishments of men and women whose names the world honors, we find that in general their attainments are the result of an unswerving obedience to an ideal. They have worked while others have idled, have refused to submit either to discouragement or to outside allurements; and sometimes they have outstripped in accomplishment those of apparently greater initial ability.

If an individual's obedience to a standard or rule of conduct is essential to the achievement of human ends, how much more important obedience is in the greatest of all endeavors, the salvation of mankind from evil! Today we have the infallible means of attaining the spiritual revelation of all good and the consequent protection against the world's conflicts and injustices. This method is Christian Science, which is in accord with Christ Jesus' teachings. This Science is enabling men to follow the Biblical commands and thereby to experience the blessings of obedience.

When the children of Israel wavered in their allegiance to the one God, Joshua said (Josh. 24:15), "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." The same choice between two masters, Spirit and matter, still confronts mortals. In all circumstances it is possible to recognize and obey the right spiritual concept, which is revealed to receptive thought. Mortal mind can do no more than present an illusory counterfeit of a right idea.
