LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

The Christian World

The Christian World London, England

I notice that [a contributor] in his otherwise pleasant and stimulating article, "Experiments in Fellowship," in your [paper], refers to Christian Science as one of "the marginal movements that harass and sometimes weaken the Church."

This is not a very worthy statement. The only things Christian Science aims to harass and weaken are sin and disease. As for the church, many a churchman has acknowledged that the church owes Christian Science a great debt for the courageous way it insists that healing the sick by spiritual means alone is as important a part of the Christian ministry as reforming the sinner.

As Dr. Wand put it recently in his book, "The Road to Happiness": "When the Church recognises the lapse and remedies it, its own life is considerably enriched. In no instance does this influence come out more clearly than in the case of Christian Science. It would be possible to trace a large part of the modern Christian interest in bodily and mental healing to the claims put forward by the followers of this movement."
