Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 108), "When apparently near the confines of mortal existence, standing already within the shadow of the death-valley, I learned these truths in divine Science: that all real being is in God, the divine Mind, and that Life, Truth, and Love are all-powerful and ever-present."
This was also true in my experience, for about seventeen years ago I was suffering from a distressing ailment which I had had for many years. I had been discharged from hospitals, and doctors had told me that they could do no more for me. I went home feeling very disheartened and discouraged, and then a very dear friend told me about Christian Science.
One Sunday morning I awakened with a great urge to attend church. There was a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, only three blocks from where I lived. I did not know if I could get that far, but I knew that God is good, and since my motive was right I went. I had so much help from this one service that I could hardly wait for the next one, which was a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. At that meeting I heard many lovely testimonies, and my hopes for healing were very high as I left the church that evening.
The next day I went to see a Christian Science practitioner. I was most amazed that she did not ask me to describe the nature of my trouble, nor did she take my temperature or ask how I felt. In fact, she did not ask any of the questions I had been accustomed to answer when seeking help from other sources. All she asked was, "Do you believe in God?"
I replied that I did.
"Then," she said, "let's talk about God for a while." She did most of the talking; and I drank in every word, because I felt as she talked that my help was right there, and it was.
I was instantaneously healed of a severe intestinal trouble of long standing, and many other healings came after I began the study of Christian Science and threw away all medicines. These healings occurred seventeen years ago, and the difficulties have never returned. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and for active service in a branch church. —(Mrs.) Frances A. Duncan, Detroit, Michigan.
