One of the things for which I...

One of the things for which I am most grateful is that Christian Science teaches us freedom from fear, because at one time I was so fearful I could not sleep if I was alone at night. Sometimes it was as if I were paralyzed with fright, and then I would be afraid that I could not help myself if anything did happen. I tried to overcome this through the study of Christian Science.

A practitioner was very helpful, but I knew this was something I had to work out and understand for myself. Then I heard a Christian Science lecture which gave me more light on overcoming fear. At the conclusion of the lecture I felt impelled to speak to the lecturer, which in itself was a demonstration.

I told the lecturer that I was having a problem with fear, and she said, "You must not be afraid of your fears." One of the aspects of the problem was this: when I was alone at night many frightful possibilities would come to my thought. It seemed to me that if I could think such things, they could surely happen to me.

I began to think about what the lecturer had said to me. I saw that, despite the pictures that presented themselves to me, these frightful thoughts were not realities. Then I reasoned that if they had none of the characteristics of God's ideas, I need not accept them, for they were powerless to harm me in any way.

By steadfastly working in this way and by holding to my identity as a child of God, I was completely healed of these unnatural fears. This has helped me to be victorious over other illusions of error and to prove these words of Paul to be true (II Tim. 1:7): "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

In our family many ills have been overcome, including the effects of insect bites, blood poisoning, and fevers, and a better sense of supply and home has been established through the application of Christian Science.

I am deeply grateful for the privilege of activity in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, for class instruction, and for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.— (Mrs.) Alma Barberi Dygert, worcester, Massachusetts.
