My first testimony appeared in...
My first testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel over twenty-five years ago, and now I feel impelled to recount many blessings which Christian Science has brought into my life since that time.
Reliance upon God, divine Principle, has enabled our family to establish homes in a most harmonious way when moving to different localities. Principle sustained the whole family when our two sons were serving in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War. And in the ensuing years it has guided them into fruitful occupations and in the establishment of their own homes.
Recently I have been able to overcome grief at the passing on of my husband. Although the way was dark and lonely at first, I recognize with gratitude how divine Love protected me from becoming involved in circumstances which would have proven unwise. Divine Love has also led me into an ever-increasing spiritual sense of joy, which has manifested itself in higher opportunities for usefulness.
An outstanding healing occurred recently when I closed the automobile door on the four fingers of my left hand. The quick realization that God, Spirit, is All and hence everything in His creation is mental, not material, and that there is in reality only one Mind or consciousness, which is divine, therefore ever-harmonious, enabled me to release my hand by opening the car door with my free hand and to take hold of the steering wheel naturally with both hands. I was able to drive on, realizing that nothing had really happened to me, the child of God. There was no pain, and there was no mark on the hand, because I had not admitted into consciousness a mortal mind picture of accident.
It is indeed humanly wonderful but divinely natural that abiding constantly and prayerfully in the knowledge that divine Mind is ever present and all-powerful, as taught in Christian Science, does protect us from suffering from the effects of so-called accidents.
I cannot express in words my gratitude for having had the blessings of Christian Science during my entire life, for parents who were consecrated workers in the Cause, and for the fact that my children and my grandchildren are continuing to demonstrate this truth. We know that the revelation of Truth came to this age through its divinely appointed messenger, Mary Baker Eddy; thus my testimony would not be complete without expressing gratitude to her as the beloved Leader of the Christian Science movement.—(Mrs.) Bernice Keach Ripley, Winter Park, Florida.
