I have received many blessings from my study of Christian Science, among which are prevention of accidents and relief from colds. I should like to relate an experience of protection from fire which occurred while we were living in the western part of the United States. We were away from our home on a vacation, and at ten o'clock at night my wife received a telephone message that a serious fire was raging on our property. Our home was located in a forest area and almost surrounded by many fir trees, which, because they contain pitch, are highly inflammable.

At first we were very fearful and disheartened as we thought of the heavy loss such a fire would mean. But we checked our fears and read the following from the Bible: the twenty-third, forty-sixth, and ninety-first Psalms. We also read from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, after which we felt composed and freed from the doubting thoughts we had had.

When we arrived at our home the next morning, we found the fire still burning and thick smoke all around. We learned that it had started from sparks from a sawmill nearly a mile away and had spread rapidly through a field of dry grass to our place. In the meantime the neighbors and fire fighters had come quickly to check it, and after a few hours they had the fire under control.
