"CHRIST'S KEYNOTE OF HARMONY"

In recent times there has been a growing awareness of the harmful effects of fear, not only on the human body but on the body politic as well. Whether fear affects one or many, its overcoming must take place in individual thinking.

No one would choose to be afraid, but to desire freedom from fear does not of itself bring that freedom. The only sure remedy is the Christly way. Christ Jesus knew no fear because he had perfect confidence, based on his understanding that the power which supports, sustains, and governs the universe, including man, is good, God.

The angelic messages, "Fear not," and, "Be not afraid," were often spoken by Jesus to his immediate followers and to others who turned to him in time of need. In some instances these words preceded specific works and healings by the Master, indicating that casting out fear is part of the divine healing method. Signifying the importance of eliminating fear, Mary-Baker Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 410), "Christian scientific practice begins with Christ's keynote of harmony, 'Be not afraid!'"
