BE FREE!

Freedom! What a word! Everybody wants to be free—free from the bondage of mortality with all its beliefs of sin and suffering, disease and death. Yes, but how to obtain this freedom? Christ Jesus said (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

What is this truth that makes us free? It is found in the spiritual understanding that God is the only creator and that since He is perfect, His creation, man, must be perfect also. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 227), "The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being."

Universal harmony and good will cannot be established as long as men believe in mortality and the reality of evil and think of matter as substantial. The deplorable conditions in the world today could not have come about but for false concepts of God and man. As long as we admit as a reality the first statement of error, namely that life, substance, and intelligence are apart from God, we shall be in bondage to that belief.
