It is with gratitude to God that I give my testimony telling of my healing of the tobacco habit through the study and understanding of Christian Science. I had been a slave to this habit since I was a boy and had formed such a desire that I thought it would be impossible ever to give it up. When the habit became offensive and disgusting, I tried hard several times to quit through my own efforts and through the prayerful work of others, but I had no permanent relief from the craving for tobacco.

Christian Science had healed me of various ills and had brought remarkable and pleasing results in helping me to overcome unpleasant difficulties in everyday affairs. I was familiar with Mrs. Eddy's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 322, 323), "Mortals may seek the understanding of Christian Science, but they will not be able to glean from Christian Science the facts of being without striving for them."

One day in my prayerful efforts to show myself a worthy student of Christian Science, I thought, "What is there to hinder me from knowing the power of Truth and demonstrating my freedom in God's way as Christian Science teaches?"
