Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Rochester, New York (Third Church).

Three dedicatory services ... were conducted in Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Rochester, Brooks Avenue at Marsh Street.

The church has been in use for a year, but in accordance with the custom of dedicating Christian Science churches only when all indebtedness has been paid off, the dedication was postponed until yesterday [November 25].

Before the Lesson-Sermon was read, the First Reader ... gave a brief historical sketch, outlining the progress of the church since its incorporation in 1924 as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Third Church was established by a few Christian Scientists who wished to provide services in the southwest section of the city. Land was bought at the Brooks Avenue location, and a temporary building erected.

That structure remained in use until July, 1954. Following a decision to build, construction began in August, 1954. From July, 1954, until the beginning of 1955, services were conducted in Genesee Baptist Church by arrangement with that congregation, and from January, 1955, until a year ago, services were held in First Church of Christ, Scientist, Rochester.
