I have been blessed and protected many times during my study of Christian Science for the last nineteen years and have testified to its healing power at the Wednesday testimony meetings and in the Christian Science periodicals. Like Jacob, when he wrestled with error until the breaking of the day and said (Gen 32:26), "I will not let thee go, except thou bless me," I have found that the arguments of mortal mind are only opportunities for growth Spiritward. And, like Jacob, I too have been blessed in overcoming them.

One year during the Christmas holidays, when our children were home on vacation, my days were rather full of human activity, and I just barely took time for regular study of the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. One day while playing golf I felt such a severe pain in my back that I could not lean over to tee up my ball. The pain became so unbearable that I had to stop in the middle of my game. I told my family not to be concerned, for I knew that as God's child I could not be limited and that my joy could not be taken away.

I sent them on to finish their game, and I went to my car where I read from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 162): "Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness." My rigid muscles needed to be relaxed, but mainly I knew that here was another opportunity for growth Spiritward, and I knew that I must do some extra study to keep my consciousness filled with Truth and Love.
