THE FAITHFUL GARDENER

Human consciousness is sometimes likened to a garden where error must be uprooted and good seed must be sown in order that one may experience fruitage in purity, health, and harmony. A successful gardener once told the writer that wherever a weed had been uprooted he always planted good seed and thus prevented weed seedlings from reappearing. He said, "You'll never have a good garden merely by pulling weeds."

Christian Science teaches that Soul is God—the only real consciousness, which man reflects. Man expresses Soul and is perfect, indestructible, whole. His consciousness needs neither planting nor sowing of seed. Mary Baker Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 527), "Man is God's reflection, needing no cultivation, but ever beautiful and complete."

Upon mankind lies the duty of watching, working, and praying for higher, holier concepts of life, substance, and intelligence. As we follow the teachings of Christian Science, this work is joyous and certain of success. There must be full acceptance of the Christ, the true idea of God, and the acknowledgment of Truth as ever operating in human consciousness to uproot weeds of error's sowing and to bring forth good fruits.
