RADIO PROGRAM No. 170 — The Way of Freedom

Speaker: How often mankind yearns to be free, to be happy and whole, not bound by suffering and lack, ill-temper or fear. Right here and now each one of us may experience the joyous freedom that is our natural inheritance as the sons and daughters of God. God made man free, and we can recognize and claim this heritage as our very own today. But let's have our guest tell you how she found such freedom. She is Mrs. Venna Alderdice of Los Angeles, California, and I'd like to have you meet her now.

Mrs. Alderdice: Back in 1943, when I was living in Chicago, I was suffering from an exceedingly painful and serious intestinal condition. One morning, after I'd spent a month in the hospital, the chief surgeon and several staff members came into my room. Their attitude was very loving, but the surgeon said: "My dear, medicine can do no more for you. But there is a power that can help you."

I think at that moment the spark of hope rekindled in me, and after I'd been taken back to our apartment, I used to lie on a cot in the garden in the sun, asking God in the best way I knew to reveal Himself to me. I realized that only from Him could my help come; but although I'd grown up in a Sunday School and later had joined a church, I really had no clear concept of God.
