CONVERSATION IN HEAVEN

Most of us spend a great deal of time in conversation. From early morning until late in the evening and sometimes far into the night we communicate with one another by means of words. How important it is for a Christian Scientist to watch as well as pray that his conversation may be constructive, helpful, and kind.

Mary Baker Eddy draws attention to the need of watchfulness in this respect. She says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 126), "Who hath not learned that when alone he has his own thoughts to guard, and when struggling with mankind his temper, and in society his tongue?"

We may have learned the truth of these inspired words, and sometimes when we have not had the wisdom to act upon them, we may have regretted our negligence. The writer of Proverbs declares (25:11), "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." A word fitly spoken must be a word of truth. It would not be a word well spoken if it were the voice or utterance of error.
