THE UNIVERSAL SOLVENT
The universal solvent, the sole and sweet solution for all error, is divine Love. Love is the most potent solvent the world has ever known. It dissolves the mist of evil and reveals the bright laws of God, which are omnipresent in action and effect. We can trace the footsteps of divine Love by the rising flowers of affection, compassion, hope, joy, gentleness, and peace that cluster our pathway in Science. We can express these fragrant qualities which heal the sick as we follow the pathway of the Christ.
In Christian Science we tread the Christly way—the road to salvation. Some have despised this way, others have turned from it, but it is available to all. The prophet Isaiah wrote (60:1), "Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee."
The seeker for Truth can always find and walk in the way. In the face of calumny and opposition he will follow it to his destination— the harmony of heaven. On the other hand, the way of the sinner is hard, stony, and severe. Hidden by mists, his once spacious way of life grows narrower as he pursues it. Night falls often and his days are darkened. But let the sinner retrace his steps. Let him return to the highway of the Christ and the cloak of sin drops from him like a shadow. He then knows he can arise and shine, because the glorious inspiration of Love has risen upon him. Divine Love has revealed to him his life in Christ, which is his original and perfect selfhood.
