In 1904, while visiting the World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, I listened to a lecture on Christian Science. It was the first time I had heard of this religion. I stood in a packed theater that night for the entire lecture, and while I do not now remember a word of it, it certainly opened my thought to Truth.

Later I met a student of Christian Science and asked him for help because of a severe cold I had. While I was talking with him the cold disappeared. This was so astonishing to me that I asked him if I could also be healed of indigestion, from which I had suffered for many years. It had become so severe that doctors had been unable to help me, although I had sought help from a number of them; and there was almost nothing that I could eat. When I asked him for help this Christian Scientist said, "You go home to your dinner tonight and eat whatever your wife has cooked for the family, and I will pray for you in Christian Science." I did so, and that was the last of the distressing condition. It disappeared that night and has never returned, although fifty years have elapsed since then.

I could write at great length of all the help I have had in business and otherwise through the study and application of Christian Science. One experience of protection, however, stands out. It occurred during a week in which the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly had been a constant light in my thought. My car was parked on the driveway, facing the street, as I expected to drive it soon. This place was at the top of a steep incline one hundred and thirty feet from my garage door. My son was on a stepladder in the doorway of the garage, and I was standing holding the ladder. An extremely heavy wind was blowing, and it caused the car to back down the driveway. When it was almost upon us it turned abruptly, continued on its way, and shortly came to a stop. The car came flown the incline so swiftly that we only had time to look up as it swished by. My son, who is not a Christian Scientist, exclaimed, "Fantastic!" That was all that was said, but in silence I thanked God for our safety and for that week's Lesson-Sermon.
