Many years ago, when doctors could do no more for me, I was asked to go to a Christian Science lecture. Not having heard the words Christian Science before, I did not know anything about this religion, not even that it claims to heal. During that lecture, questions which had puzzled me for a long time were completely answered.

When I was about two years old a spinal injury had resulted in paralysis, and for some time I was not expected to live. For several years I was unable to walk at all. Eventually, with the help of a steel support I did walk, although with difficulty, but I had to be in bed a great deal in winter on account of severe chilblains on one foot and leg.

At one time specialists had thought that perhaps when I grew up it might be possible to operate and improve my condition. However, two weeks before I heard of Christian Science I was taken to see two specialists. They both said that nothing could be done, and they told my mother that the foot ought to be amputated. There was also a great lack of strength, and I suffered from severe headaches, which the doctors could not even alleviate. In addition, I had worn glasses since I was quite a small child. Following the lecture I never used glasses again, nor did I have any more headaches or chilblains.
