UTILIZING THE PARABLES

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 117), "Our Master taught spirituality by similitudes and parables." All Christians love the meekness and simple beauty of our Master's parables. And because Christian Science is based on the teachings of Christ Jesus, it naturally brings to light the countless spiritual facets of these sparkling jewels of wisdom. Jesus' parables are rich in spiritual meaning, and students of Christian Science glean abundant blessings by applying them to their daily needs. The parables of the prodigal, the good Samaritan, the fruitless fig tree, the hidden treasure, the sower and the seed, the unjust steward, the leaven, the lost sheep—all contain vital lessons for the Christian Scientist.

One Scientist utilized a simple truth found in one of our Master's parables to produce a permanent healing. He was called upon for metaphysical treatment by a woman who was suffering from eczema. His statements of truth to her were absolute and scientific, declaring the allness of God, Spirit, and the perfectibility of man in divine Science. He knew that her true being was unmarred by conditions of matter, that divine Mind held her as flawless idea in clear, unblemished being. He likewise declared the impossibility of any discomfort or irritation in this universe of ideas. He knew that error could not grow and spread alongside the unfoldment of good, for Christian Science, as the law of God, roots out the offending evils and binds their supposed powers.
