Through the study of Christian Science...

Through the study of Christian Science I have found "beauty for ashes of the vanished years" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 412). When my children and I turned for refuge to my parents' home following an unsuccessful marriage, I was filled with fears for the future. I was not well, had no income of my own, and had been out of the business world for ten years.

However, I was sustained by the rememberance of an instantaneous healing of neuritis which I had previously experienced through Christian Science. This experience meant far more to me than merely a physical healing, for through it I felt God's hand outstretched to me in my distress. I studied and prayed humbly to learn more of God and His goodness to man.

My parents were opposed to this study and wanted me to finish a nursing course I had commenced years before or to take up study in preparation to become a medical doctor, since there had been a physician in every generation of my father's family for many years. It was difficult to deny them their wishes when they were providing for me so lovingly, but a Christian Science practitioner reminded me that on page 206 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with the loaves and the fishes,—Spirit, not matter, being the source of supply."
