LOVE'S HEALING COMPASSION

A striking fact connected with the healing works of Christ Jesus is the number of times that the word "compassion" is used in the Bible accounts of his demonstrations. The Gospels record that he was moved with compassion before he touched and healed the leper and again before he fed the five thousand. He had compassion on the two blind men before he restored their sight, as well as on the widow of Nain before he raised her son. Here is full evidence that the element of love made manifest in mercy and true sympathy entered into all the Master's healing works. Plainly, compassion was a vital factor in his attitude toward all who came to him for help.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, looked on a suffering world with the greatest compassion. Her biographies indicate and prove this. She healed many so-called incurable cases of disease through her understanding and expression of the love of God.

In the book "We Knew Mary Baker Eddy," First Series, it is written that Mrs. Eddy once said in substance to one of her students (p. 74): "I saw the love of God encircling the universe and man, filling all space, and that divine Love so permeated my own consciousness that I loved with Christlike compassion everything I saw. This realization of divine Love called into expression 'the beauty of holiness, the perfection of being' (Science and Health, p. 253), which healed, and regenerated, and saved all who turned to me for help."
