Preserving the Childlike Qualities

"Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 18:3). In the light of these words of Christ Jesus, how important it is that children be taught to preserve the childlike qualities.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in a message to her Church (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 110), "Beloved children, the world has need of you,—and more as children than as men and women: it needs your innocence, unselfishness, faithful affection, uncontaminated lives." And then she points the way to the preservation of these virtues. She continues, "You need also to watch, and pray that you preserve these virtues unstained, and lose them not through contact with the world."

Watching and praying go hand in hand. Faithfully watching and earnestly praying, boys and girls will come to young manhood and young womanhood upholding their own high standard, untouched by the ways of the weak and worldly. And the world will feel the impact of their endeavors.
