COMPANIONING WITH GOD ASSURES A JOYOUS CHRISTMAS

Once again the blessed Christmas season is here. The following words by Mary Baker Eddy point the way to a joyous Christmas for all, regardless of any untoward circumstances (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 260): "In Christian Science, Christmas stands for the real, the absolute and eternal,—for the things of Spirit, not of matter." Then a little farther on she continues: "The basis of Christmas is love loving its enemies, returning good for evil, love that 'suffereth long, and is kind.' The true spirit of Christmas elevates medicine to Mind; it casts out evils, heals the sick, raises the dormant faculties, appeals to all conditions, and supplies every need of man."

Individuals seeking the comfort of the Christ will find it in the writings of Mrs. Eddy. Thousands herald the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, in the same way that the shepherds greeted the angelic messengers that told of the birth of Jesus. Christian Scientists are grateful for this gift of gifts, for the understanding that man is the image and likeness of God, that he is purely spiritual, not material.

Christian Science opens the door for the coming of the Christ to individual consciousness. Many blessings and healings come about through dispelling the false concepts of the Saviour as a personal Jesus, through the recognition of the Christ-element in the Way-shower as the Saviour from all error, and through understanding man's true status as God's image and likeness. The Master's mission, in the words of Isaiah (61:3), was "to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, thegarment of praise for the spirit of heaviness."
