"WITH FAN IN HAND"

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 466): "The Science of Christianity comes with fan in hand to separate the chaff from the wheat. Science will declare God aright, and Christianity will demonstrate this declaration and its divine Principle, making mankind better physically, morally, and spiritually."

Christ Jesus gave his followers all that they were ready to understand of Christianity. It remained for our Leader to receive from God and give to us in this age the final revelation of the Science of Christianity. "With fan in hand" it separates the chaff of error from the wheat of truth. It then gathers the wheat into the garner of divine understanding and brings to humanity a clearer realization of man's unity, or oneness, with God —the unity of Truth with its idea.

Jesus was always about the Father's business, always turning to God for guidance and understanding. He taught his disciples how to know their true selfhood and how to separate that true selfhood from the counterfeit, which is subject to sin, sickness, and death. Jesus demonstrated Christ in his age, and his teachings show the way of redemption from all evil. Christian Science reveals the ever-present Christ in this age and teaches us how to know man's true identity as the son of God. The Bible and our Leader's writings are overflowing with lessons which help us to separate the chaff from the wheat and to garner only the truth of God and His creation.
