In 1913 a dear friend of mine was quickly healed of severe pain when work was taken up by a Christian Science practitioner who was several miles away. This healing impressed me greatly and made me desire to learn more of the truth that destroys suffering, for I had so many ills that I was in a state of hopelessness. Among them was tuberculosis, from which my mother and a brother had passed on some years before. An infected ear condition had left me semideaf, and granulated eyelids, which I had had since birth, had made me partially blind. The greatest sorrow I had, however, was that I was separated from all my kinfolk and was uneducated. By placing reliance wholly on God I was healed of all the physical conditions. Also I was united with my people, and I learned to read and write.

Our children were born with Christian Science help and have been raised without medicine or other material remedies. One child was premature, weighing but a pound and three quarters. Without any medical aid she grew into a normal, healthy girl. She is now grown and has a family of her own.

Another daughter had jaundice and spasms soon after she was born. A Christian Science practitioner worked for her, and she was quickly healed. I was struck by lightning just before giving birth to a baby, and my case was termed hopeless. The baby was born without my experiencing pain or suffering, however, and later I completely recovered from the effects of the lightning.
