RADIO PROGRAM No. 44 - Breaking the Shell of Loneliness

On this program Richard L. Glendon of Westwood Hills, California, told of his own experience, as follows:

My parents were never serious students of Christian Science, but I was enrolled in the Sunday School at the age of six and attended with reasonable regularity until I became twenty. To this I attribute the fact that I have never experienced any physical disease or disability other than the usual childhood ailments, and these were always quickly healed when a Christian Science practitioner was called.

The greatest blessing Christian Science has brought to me is that of the healing of extreme sensitiveness and self-depreciation. From my earliest school days I was unable to stand and recite before the class and was so timid that I played only in noncompetitive ways with children younger than myself. Through adolescence and young manhood I suffered intensely from loneliness. Fear kept me from enjoying sports, dances, and parties, although I wanted companionship above everything. My parents and schoolteachers were unable to break this shell, for, as I now know, it had to be broken from within.
