THE IMPRESS OF TRUTH

One of the most important things to understand in Christian Science is that we do not live in a nervous system, but that all means of communication belong to God and the tender relationship of man with the Christ constitutes our true being. Mary Baker Eddy says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 332), "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness."

Mortal mind seems to have translated the divine message into a material system of communication and thus in belief created a sensory system of pain and pleasure in matter.

The tender relationship of man and the Christ appears in the myriad ways in which we are united with God and can move in accord with Him. Nerves claim to be communicators, but they are not. We do not find any nerve in Mind, and Mind is the only true communicator. If impressions originate in Mind, thought is impressed with the attributes of God, such as mercy, justice, peace, purity, and love. Mortal thought impresses itself on the mortal by suggestions of all types of fears and fancies and, in so doing, imprisons the mortal in his own beliefs.
