Signs of the Times

E. Stanley Jones in an article in the Piqua Daily Call, Ohio

Keep on growing so that anything derogatory that is said about you will belong to the man who was and not to the man who is.... A college president... when asked how he could keep his composure in the face of continual shots fired at him from students, from professors, from alumni, and from the general public, replied, with a broad and generous smile: "Oh, I just keep moving and let the shots drop behind me."...

Love never fails, for the giving out of love is the victory. If the person concerned accepts it, then you have won; if he does not accept it, you have also won, for you are the more loving. In everything that happens look for the growing point. Every disturbance can disturb you upward.

You and I live our lives as a tale that is told, and it is essential that we know the mind of the Maker so that we can follow that way of life, which He sets before us....

Happiness and peace can only come to the world as a whole and to us as individuals if and when we find and follow God's will for us all.

This world is not the result of chance. It is based and built on order and sense and on One who has promised that all things will work together for good to them that love Him and who live their lives according to His plan.

I believe that the Holy Spirit publishes and circulates this good news to all who have ears to hear. ...Amidst all the din and shouting of men His still small voice can be heard.

Jesus taught that the way to discover God was by the process of obedience to Him. There is something that a person of the most rudimentary understanding of things can comprehend. If anyone will... daily live his life with a view of conforming to God's will, and will seek to be well pleasing to Him, as a child to his parent, in every thought and deed, he will not be long in finding in his own soul the assurance of the existence of a Supreme Being and coming into "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." Jesus emphasized this fact when he stated that the knowledge of God was hidden from the self-assumed wise and understanding and revealed unto babes. It is the humble mind that knows God.
