For many years the testimonies given at the Wednesday evening meetings and those printed in The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition) have made me realize that healing is a present possibility. I feel unspeakably grateful when I think of the consecration with which our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, worked to make clear to all mankind its right to freedom.

During the years that I have been studying Christian Science I have had many proofs of God's great goodness and His omnipresence. I should like to relate one experience here. Some years ago, through the loving work of a practitioner. I gave birth to a child almost painlessly. A week later an explosion occurred in our house which resulted in the child's suffering a severe umbilical hemorrhage.

I called the practitioner who had helped me, and among other things she mentioned these words of Mrs. Eddy's which had been continually coming to my thought (Science and Health, p. 206): "Does God send sickness, giving the mother her child for the brief space of a few years and then taking it away by death?" The answer came to me, "God is not cruel and would not do that." Despite the work of the practitioner I was very fearful, and yet I knew that it was this very fear that was preventing the healing.
