With a heart full of gratitude for...

With a heart full of gratitude for Christian Science, I want to express my joy over an experience of protection that occurred in my employment as the engineer in charge of the locomotive of a passenger train on one of our largest railroads.

I had proved the practicable and ever-available truth of Christian Science for many years on a locomotive in such conditions as collisions, rain and wind storms, washouts, land and rock slides in the mountains, signal failures, and other dangers. However, the periodic tragedies at highway grade crossings and elsewhere along the line troubled me considerably. As a Christian Scientist I felt that these tragedies should not happen, and in silent meditation I prayed for wisdom that I might more clearly see God's perfect creation, including man.

On one of my trips, while I was thinking of the teachings of Christian Science, these words from our Christian Science Hymnal came to me repeatedly (No. 144):
