AN IMPORTANT DUTY

One of the important duties of citizens in many nations of the world is the casting of ballots on election day. It is the responsibility of every Christian Scientist to fulfill this duty with interest and through his example and prayers to help his fellow men do so.

To accomplish this the Christian Scientist maintains each day the basic fact that God, divine Mind, is the one and only source of true law and government, and that man has no ability or power underived from this divine source. Regardless of the testimony of the material senses, the one infinite Mind is the Mind of all, and the recognition of this fact exposes and corrects mistakes and dishonesty and establishes righteousness in human affairs and governments.

Here let us consider some of the specific points whereby the voter can prepare himself to fulfill his duty at the polls. One often hears it said, "I should like to vote, but I am confused about the issues," or, "I don't know the qualifications of the candidates." There is no excuse for such arguments. They represent a denial of the basic fact that the one Mind knows all, and that man reflects its unerring understanding and judgment. The Christian Scientist should be grateful that our Leader establisheci The Christian Science Monitor, with its honest and impartial presentation of national and international affairs, and with its editorials carefully written and reviewed from the standpoint of pure Christianity and seeking always to point out what is nearest right under the circumstances.
