THE NEED TO LOVE
One
need we have, one overwhelming need,
The need to love:
Not as one bending down, benevolent,
Bestowing gifts upon the hungry poor:
Nor looking up, with personal attachment,
Giving devotion due to God alone:
But showing forth our Father's love, embracing
In radiant reflection all mankind.
This is our need.
And, waking to this need, with joy we see
The heart unselfed is filled with Love divine.
Which overflows to fill the empty hands
Of all in need.
