I am especially grateful for the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. It always has exactly the right truths for my daily need. I should like to tell of a proof of God's protection which occurred one week when the lesion was on the subject of "Life" and included the following statement (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 250): "Science reveals Life as not being at the mercy of death, nor will Science admit that happiness is ever the sport of circumstance."

While vacationing last summer our family drove to the summit of a mountain in New England. On the trip down we discovered that our brakes would not hold. My husband steered for the side of the road away from the decline, but on hitting the rocks at the side of the road we very slowly turned over. I was declaring. "God is Love," and one of my daughters was repeating it after me. Our youngest son, who was six years old, shouted. "I know it!" These were the only words spoken. No one screamed, for we all felt God's presence. Words cannot express the gratitude we felt as we climbed out unharmed to wait for a car to take us to the foot of the mountain.

The man in charge of the toll road said that we had turned over in about the widest spot, since the position of our car did not block the other cars, although the road was very narrow. Others spoke of our deliverance as a miracle. It was predicted that we would be delayed three or four days waiting for our car, but our eldest daughter, age thirteen, said to me, "Mother, we don't have to accept that." The car was delivered to us the next morning.

I found myself wondering what error in thought had caused the experience, and then I saw clearly that if it were a problem of sickness, I would know that there is only one cause and therefore one effect; namely, God, good. In establishing a cause for trouble. I would only be making an accident out of what was merely an incident, for no one had a bruise or scratch and even the car was not damaged.

As soon as I saw this, only gratitude and love remained in my thoughts for having witnessed a proof of God's protection. When saving good-by we were told that all the bills for the car, our meals, and the cottage where we spent the night had been paid by the company that owned the toll road up the mountain.

An occurrence incident to that experience was that my husband was healed of a back difficulty from which he had been suffering. We felt that the healing resulted from the love and gratitude that were expressed at that time.

I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church and also in a branch church, where our children attend Sunday School.— (Mrs.) Muriel Thurber Kelner, Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
