As a child I can remember always...

As a child I can remember always having a hunger for spiritual things. I wanted to know why we are here and for what purpose. No matter what pleasures I had, where I went, or what I did, I felt that there was something greater and more satisfying in spiritual truth, which I had not yet discerned.

I came to know of Christian Science about twenty years ago, when I was visiting my sister, who was having help from a practitioner. Often I read a few lines from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which my sister was studying. At that time I was having medical treatment for nervous debility. J was full of fears of all sorts and was most unhappy.

One night, while my husband was away from home. I was alone with our two children. After putting them to bed I felt mentally distracted and deeply fearful. I did not know what to do or where to go to get some measure of comfort and peace. My need was so great that I found myself kneeling and praying earnestly to God for help. A few minutes later I lay down and it was as though a cool hand had been placed on my brow. I knew nothing more until the next morning, when I awakened to the sound of birds singing outside and to the sun streaming into the room.
