THE UNDERSTANDING AND DEMONSTRATION OF TRUE SUBSTANCE

Unsound economic theories and inequitable distribution are generally regarded as causes contributing to the present strife and conflict of nations. In the light of Christian Science, however, one can see that the answer to humanity's need is the scientific understanding of God as infinite substance, as the substance of all being. Science shows us that all men need to ponder and more truly approximate the meaning of that great word "infinite" to appreciate more intelligently its significance.

Is it not evident that the reason why human beings the world over are having so much difficulty regarding supply and the making of a living is that everything is viewed from the standpoint of finity rather than infinity, of matter rather than Spirit? Lack and poverty are the inevitable products of finite, material thinking. The human or mortal mind is in its very nature limited. All of its concepts are limited and finite.

Christian Science, on the other hand, declares that God being infinite, man, His embodiment or expression, is the unfoldment of God's infinite nature. It declares that man reflects the consciousness of illimitable, substantial ideas. In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes (p. 301): "As God is substance and man is the divine image and likeness, man should wish for, and in reality has, only the substance of good, the substance of Spirit, not matter. The belief that man has any other substance, or mind, is not spiritual and breaks the First Commandment, Thou shalt have one God, one Mind."
