On page 442 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read this admonition: "Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake."

Eighteen months ago an experience awoke me to the importance of keeping a better watch over my thoughts, especially over those which seem either unimportant or humanly justifiable, but which may be expressions of mortal mind. I had to move from a flat under difficult conditions. Fatigue, over-work, and lack of time weighed heavily on me. I was conscious of the importance of getting over these beliefs, and I prayed earnestly to realize that God is All-in-all, that the day would unfold in the light of Love, and that I was willing to obey God's voice. The first hours were quite harmonious, and I was very grateful; but without noticing a change in my thinking, I began to rely on my human energy and soon felt exhausted and was full of self-pity and impatience. While taking off a wall lamp I came into contact with the electric current. My hands clasped the wires tightly, and I was shaken from head to foot.

I was unable to utter a word or call for help, and I wondered how long I would be able to stand the ordeal. Suddenly an angel thought presented itself: "If you are able to think along these lines, you are also able to think right thoughts. You know there is no real power in those wires; there is just one power, that of God, Spirit, and you are at one with Him."
