TRUTH IS FINAL

The purpose of Christian Science practice is to cast out error and heal the sick with finality. Once an erroneous condition has been healed through the Christ, that condition cannot return. This is a spiritual demand of the Christ and requires our constant recognition. Truth obliterates error and reveals our primal spiritual existence to be intact.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 28), "In conscience, we cannot hold to beliefs outgrown." This declaration bears the stamp of finality and shows it to be impossible for error, when once it has been destroyed by Truth, to return with a train of related ailments. There is no sequel or hangover of evil to menace or mesmerize the one who has been healed through the ministrations of Christian Science.

Let us think of this great spiritual fact by means of a simple illustration. Suppose one evening on your way home you encounter a severe storm. You would naturally wrap your coat tightly around you, turn up your collar, and plod steadfastly forward through the wind and rain. Soon you reach the warm fireside and hear the glad welcome of your family and friends. Your dripping clothing is removed, and you relax in the happy glow of the family circle. You do not bring the storm with you into the home. You do not open the doors and windows and allow the house to be filled with wind and rain. Rather, the storm is shut out.
