Signs of the Times

Salvation Army Senior-Major George Smith in an articlele in The War Cry, Chicago, Illinois

Christianity is the most usable force in the world; it is... not a dogma to be debated, but a life to be lived.

In recent years Christianity is frequently put on the agenda for discussion groups as though it were just another topic to be lined up with political creeds, economic theories, or any other secular subject. ... People may hold opinions about almost anything, but Christianity gives convictions.... Every doctrine has its duty; every truth its tasks. "When God wanted to write a creed for us, He did it not in words, that might change their meaning, but He set before us a life. Theories could be debated and doubted, but a life could only be lived" [wrote William Booth, the Salvation Army Founder].
