THOU ART MY FORTRESS

As sang the Psalmist, so of Thee I say,
O God. Thou art my fortress and my song;
In vain sin's archers their swift arrows play
Against Thy walls, impenetrable, strong;
The dark designs of evil thinking fail
To reach Thy heaven-fortressed towers of thought;
Thy parapets no enemy can scale;
Who trusts in Thee is safe from such assault.
No warring clamor can his peace impair
Whose fortress is that holy secret place
Where man discerns his sonship with Thee. There
He dwells secure, encompassed by Thy grace.
O Love divine, with deep desire I pray
That in this fortress I may ever stay.
