I was brought up in a religion that was very dear to me. It taught universal salvation, but did not include the healing of the sick and other discords.

My father was in ill-health, and my mother suffered from stomach trouble and sick headaches. When I was growing up I was told by doctors that I had inherited these unhappy conditions. While still a young girl I went with my parents to California, and there for the first time I heard of Christian Science. I thought the many wonderful things told me were too good to be true, and I did not pursue Science at that time.

Some years later, after I was married and the mother of four children, we came to the state of Washington. Christian Science was again brought to my attention, and friends gave me some authorized literature. A young woman in our neighborhood was healed of a very serious condition through Science, and her brothers and sisters began to attend a Christian Science Sunday School; and our daughter went with them. I borrowed Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and began to read it with deep interest and understanding.
