GOD, TRUTH, THE ONLY HEALER

"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Thus Jesus made known the Christ-method of healing and the secret of his mighty victories over evil. When Pilate questioned him, Jesus declared (John 18:37): "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice." Pilate then asked the momentous question, "What is truth?"

In the Preface to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p viii), "The question, What is Truth, is answered by demonstration,—by healing both disease and sin; and this demonstration shows that Christian healing confers the most health and makes the best men." Obviously, we must first apprehend what constitutes the truth if we would demonstrate its healing power and thus approximate the works of the great Metaphysician, Christ Jesus.

Christian Science reveals God as infinite Mind, Spirit, Truth, Life, and Love, and man as His image, or reflection, eternally at one with, or united to, the Father. It teaches that God's universe is entirely spiritual; that it consists of Mind's ideas, and is governed, sustained, and maintained by God's universal law of perpetual harmony. Since matter, or evil, is unknown to God, good, its only claim to existence is in suppositional mortal mind. Therefore evil, including sin, disease, disaster, and other mortal discords, is nonintelligent, unreal, and powerless. The student of Christian Science learns to view the inharmonies of what is called material life as false beliefs of mortal mind rather than actualities, regardless of their name or nature or how aggressive they may appear.
