THE ALLNESS OF GOOD

The student of Christian Science not only is mindful of the need for being aware of the various claims of the carnal mind and of the wisdom of handling them by knowing their nothingness, but also is awake to the eternal, ever-present fact that good is paramount and that this is the truth upon which his thought should he focused. In reality there is but one presence and power, and that is good, for God is good. Good, therefore, is not just the greater or the greatest power; it is the only power.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, declares in her "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 206): "'Good is my God, and my God is good. Love is my God, and my God is Love.'" Throughout her writings we find the frequent use of the term good for God. The Anglo-Saxon term for Deity, or God, is good. This is natural, for God is the perfect, altogether lovely One; He can be only good and therefore can know only good.

One might say that the declaration and realization of the nothingness of evil and the allness of good is one of the fundamental rules for healing indicated in all of Mrs. Eddy's writings. For example, she declares in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 450), "The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; and he will overcome them by understanding their nothingness and the allness of God, or good."
