I wish to submit my testimony in gratitude for the benefits which I have experienced since taking up the study of Christian Science.

For years I had been searching for a more satisfying way of life. This search led me to study many theories about life and religion, but I could not accept any of them. Then I read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and recognized it as the truth.

The first step up the ladder of regeneration for me was an instantaneous healing of smoking. I had smoked very heavily for over ten years and many times had tried to give up this enslaving habit, but without success. Not until a Christian Science practitioner informed me that I could not hope to progress very far in Christian Science so long as I smoked, did the habit leave me. The desire for progress Spiritward exceeded the false pleasure I thought I had received from smoking. This healing took place in 1938, and I have not had a desire for cigarettes or social drinking since. Mrs. Eddy writes in her textbook on page 406: "The depraved appetite for alcoholic drinks, tobacco, tea, coffee, opium, is destroyed only by Mind's mastery of the body. This normal control is gained through divine strength and understanding."
