THAT GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED

From time to time we hear over the radio a singing commercial which advises, "Let your beauty be seen." A Christian Scientist hearing it found himself thinking how important it is to let real spiritual beauty, the reflection of God's qualities, be seen.

In his admonition (Matt. 5:16), "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven," Jesus was explicit in setting forth the reason for allowing the light to shine. It was not for personal glory or aggrandizement; it was not for personal honor or gain. The shining forth was for the sole purpose of allowing men to see the good works that they might glorify God. It is the glorification of God that is the purpose of all being. Jesus always gave all glory to the Father. So each of us should endeavor to see that he shows forth man's oneness, or unity, with the Father in his daily life, not to glorify himself, but that his reflection of spiritual beauty and light may draw mankind out of the darkness of mortality into the light and glory of Love itself.

If we demonstrate man's oneness with the Father by showing forth His light in love, peace, integrity, harmony, and abundance, our neighbors may perceive it and some day ask us the source of this light. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 201), "The best sermon ever preached is Truth practised and demonstrated by the destruction of sin, sickness, and death."
