COMPLETING THE HEALING

The prophet Jeremiah records God as saying (Jer. 29:13), "Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart." Repeatedly students of Christian Science are proving this assurance to be true even in the face of delayed healings. In our periodicals, at the Wednesday testimony meetings, in the impartations of friend to friend, indeed, wherever healing in Christian Science is related, one hears of the overcoming of the so-called mortal mind argument of discouragement and of that radical change of thought which culminates in joy as healing takes place.

Just what is the change of thought which occurs between these points of despair and joy? It seems often the same: the patient reaches a state of consciousness where it is more important to him to find his God than to get a physical healing. At once the material condition, no matter how critical it may seem, recedes in importance as the student strives with all his heart and all his mind better to understand the power that is Life.

The writer first turned to Christian Science for the healing of a serious physical condition. After a period of treatment and study during which all the material conditions apparently remained the same or grew worse, she came to the conclusion that Christian Science was not going to work in her case. Accepting this as true, she suddenly felt that all that really mattered to her was to feel a closeness to God. This she knew Christian Science could teach her. She realized that all the time she had been working and studying she had had only her physical healing in view. She resolved that henceforth she would devote all her energies to gaining an understanding of God and man. A sense of burden was lifted at that very moment, and the physical difficulty gradually vanished into nothingness.
