Christian Science was called to...

Christian Science was called to my attention at a time when one situation after another arose to make my outlook a despairing one. Illness, hospitalizations, operations, passing on of loved ones, and the need of a home were problems presented in rapid succession.

From the moment I caught the faintest glimpse of what Christian Science reveals to mankind I was blessed in a way that I had never before known. From the wilderness I was led to the path that enables us to overcome mortal testimony and make the demonstration of God's law of good a tangible reality in human experience. The Bible verse, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you" (John 15:7), was the promise that gave me fresh hope with which meet every adverse circumstance and ultimately to overcome it through the inspiration of the Word and a growing understanding of Truth.

One healing stands out in particular, not because of the severity of the condition, but because of its unmistakable proof that a discordant physical condition is but fear made manifest on the body. One afternoon while gardening I knelt on a hornet. Though the sting was sharp, I did no metaphysical work about it. However, by nightfall there was considerable irritation and swelling, and the next morning the leg from the next morning the leg from the ankle to the knee was swollen to half again its normal size. At this point I asked help of a practitioner. After three days, when there was no indication of the condition yielding, the practitioner said, "There is something blocking circulation, and that something is in thought." The moment our conversation was finished I recalled a time when medical science had diagnosed a similar manifestation I was suffering from as very serious, and I was hospitalized and underwent drastic treatment.
