After leaving the Christian Science Sunday School...

After leaving the Christian Science Sunday School, I joined The Mother Church. This step enabled me to serve as secretary in a university Christian Science Organization, such as is provided for in Article XXIII, Section 8, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy. The opportunity to have class instruction in Christian Science came while I was still in college. I had to choose between this opportunity and another that would have enabled me to complete my education sooner. If I took off two weeks from practice teaching in the normal college, I would have to do an extra eight weeks in the training school. It did not occur to me to give up class instruction; so I went forward. I have been amply repaid for the stand taken at that time.

The Christian Science Monitor was my constant companion in my girlhood home, as it has also been since my marriage. Our children have used it in their schoolwork and have thus formed a high standard of choice in regard to publications.

Christian Science teachings put into practice have been a shield and buckler, so that I have been comparatively free from ills of the flesh. But there are some healings I wish to mention. About 1920 a skin eruption appeared on my throat. I worked metaphysically and also had a practitioner work, but the condition did not yield. It was irritating and unsightly and caused me to feel much ashamed. But when I was appointed superintendent of the Sunday School in our branch church I had no time to think of self. While serving in this office and seeking enlarged spiritual understanding I discovered one day that the healing was complete.
